Our agent brought us to Spartials, for the climb to Pantokrator - the peak of the island. The path lead us through heavy woordland to Karst region, with while limestone rocks and flat, grass-coverd plaiins. But when we came on the rioad that lead to the summmit - another 150 meters uphill - the mountain was covered with fog so the cllimb was not feasbale - with no views but grey mist. Since return would be the same route back, we simply crossed the road and continued our walk around the mountain. Somewhere we lost a sighn but found our way along a vally to the abandoned villages of Perithea (that is revived by a fw restaurants and souvenir shop) and Krinias (now partly restored), and made it to the North coast. Following the shoreline - along the seaside or a bit inland - to to Agios Spyridon. This is official end of the track - but we ended a few 100 meters befroe - we could catch a taxi to bring us the the hotel for the night, in Kalami, on the Southeastern coast. |
