The VMS Wiki

Email: <admin AT grootersnet DOT nl>

This is my VMS wiki - for education, reference and fun (yes, OpenVMS IS fun).

To contribute, you need to login. To login, you need to add a profile. Before you are accepted as a contributor, you'll need acceptance as such. That is my privilege.

What will be in it:

and more.

Take a look in the folllowing places if you look for information you couldn't find here:

because only a part of what's in there has been moved here at the moment (they will, gradually)

About the image

Once, the BBC had a radio series called "The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy" and one particular device in the series was a kind of unofficial Galaxian Almanac. It told you, as a hitch-hiker, everting you needed to know on what and who you might encounter. Actually, as a hitch-hiker you aboslutely needed two things: a towel and this device. It had a fine cover, on which these words would light up: "Don't Panic".

Bruce Ellis, who has worked with VMS from the very, very beginning, wrote a book titled "The Hitch-hikers Guide to VMS". It's a collector's item nowadays, hard to get. It also tells you "Don't Panic".

I won't compare this wiki to be of the same quality as it's illustrious predecessors. I can only hope that is will serve you well. Therefore, I adopted the credo:

Don't Panic B-)

Contribute

In the same context: where the BBC's "Hitch-Hikers Guide" was continously updated, this guide needs the same contribution. I don't know verything, and my experience is that there can be many ways to achieve things. Or better.

Contribution is not forbidden, but you'll need to be known: Just hit "Login" at the start page, read well, follow the text, and you're done. And if you contribute, please use English as this is the Lingua Franca for OpenVMS. I didn't set up language specific pages, because it would mean translation upon translation, to keep it all consistent.

By the way If you register, I'll be notified. If your name does not follow this site's standard (Christian name.Surname), cannot be considered real, or if you use a bogus email address, you're newly created account will be disabled, if not deleted, and all of your files will be made inaccesable, or be deleted, without notice.

Second: I keep an eye to changes. If I notice changes that cannot be tolerated (line added links to sites that are not related to the subject of the wiki, for instance), be assured these links will be deleted - and your account disabled.
