The "Trekvogelpad" is a long distance footpath from Bergen aan Zee on the shores of the North Sea to the German border near Enschede. All together over 300 kilometers. The center area is quite nearby aso we did some of the stretches in our neigbourhood. The rest will need to wait...
23-November 2007: Maarn - Amerongen * We started the trainstation in Maarn, crossed the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, through the woods, to Doorn - an artist's village. Here the German Emperor Wilhelm I spent his days in exile after the First WorldWar. From there, we traversed the Utrecht riverlands along straight roads to the Dyke near Amerongen. A short detour brought is straight in front of Amerongen Castle. Due to time constraints, we couldn't make it all to Rhenen
 * (34 Slides) 7-Jan-2008: Rhenen-Ede * Starting at the trainstation of Rhenen - at the verges of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, we passed the high lands of the Grebbeberg, along the steep slopes that fall down the the Rhine. This area has been the site of heavy fighting in May 1940, the beginning of the Second Worldwar, and operation Market Garden wasnt far from this location either. From here, we followed a stream called Grift that eventually ends in the avlleikanaal that surrounds our village. But we took a slightly different direction to Ede
 * (22 Slides) 19-Jan-2008 * A full day of rain - and therefore no pictures - but despite the weather, a nice walk, mailnly through woodland, from Ede to Otterlo. We could have continued to Hoenderloo - another 15 kilometers - but that was considered too far in all - about 40 kilometers is a long way - and especially in rain* (2 Slides)
