From the camping site at Buoch, we had to cross the real mountains: since the pass was still closed, we had to get through the SanktGotthard tunnel. To get there, the road was full of tunnels. Well, Switzerland is a mountanous country, no that's no big surprise. Above the little town of San Piero a Sieve - and also above the camping site, is a fortress built by a descendant of the De'Medici family. Since it was so near, we could get up there the evening we arrived. The map we hired from the site, wasn't too clear on the route but finally, we got up the hill, at the foot of the high walls, and walked halfway along the fortress. We returned by a forest road that ended up a main road - and Italian drivers are not used to walkers on the road: Be sure to be well visible, and keep to the shoulders! |
