PWS died?
It has been a few month that I started my PWS600 to do some work. Since last power outage, it has been taken off the grid since I suspected the power supply to blow the fuse, it has been off the grid for this time.
Now when I start it up, it will get on like it always does – has to cycle power several times before it came to the boot-prompt – but this time: no signal. Since the system was monitored using the serial port, I expected something there: and indeed: It turned out to boot int ALPHABIOS. meaning: WindowNT. But neither F2 nor F8 were responsive – here I could probably do something. But all I could actually do was ENTER – failing, of course, to locate the operating system.
Booting into ALPHABIOS usuaslly means the battery (2032 button cell) on the main board was dead.
So I replaced it and restarted the machine.
No luck.
To get back to SRM, you NEED the graphical console (yeah, it’s Windows) so I connected keyboard, mouse and monitor, and restarted.
No signal on Video.
Hooked up a VT440 terminal + keyboard, on COM A
No signal on Video, no output on VT440.
Hooked up a VT440 terminal + keyboard, on COM B
No signal on Video, no output on VT440.
It seems the system won’t get into console – ALHPHABIOS or SRM – but hangs somewhere before that.
There is a set of 8 LEDS that may hold a clue, but no documentation on this available at the site.
So I asked around what this seeting means
------------------------ < edge of board
<< CPU >> Memory
+-+ +-+ +-+ +-+
| | | | | | | | < 4 LEDS OFF
+-+ +-+ +-+ +-+
+-+ +-+ +-+ +-+
| | |x| | | | < LED OFF, LED ON, 2 LEDS OFF
+-+ +-+ +-+ +-+
This is value x04
Got replies – and (links to) manuals. These show the eight LEDS but not this combination….
